STEPS FOR APPLYING TO COLLEGE
- Check with counselor to see if you qualify for a fee waiver prior to starting the process of applying and taking entrance exams.
- Apply for college: Please click here to visit the webpage If the college is out of the state, you will need to apply directly to the college on their school webpage.
- Register for a college entrance exam.
- Junior College/Technical School:
- TSI (Texas Success Initiative) exam includes Math, Reading, and Writing. Schedule with the TSI testing center on the college campus.
- Pre-Assessment Activity required for TSI

- 4-Year University (Check with your college to see what score meets admissions requirement. Every university’s requirements vary. The quartile found on your transcript will determine the needed score)

- Junior College/Technical School:
- Apply for financial aid: Please click here to visit the webpage (Click on the FAFSA tab for videos and information required for all graduating seniors)
- Apply for Scholarships locally and through your college's financial aid department.
- Request a transcript be sent to the college of your choice. There are forms located outside the front office window in a black 3-ring binder or you may email glenda.huff@newtonisd.net to request the transcript be sent electronically.
- Dual credit students will request a transcript be sent to the college of their choice in addition to their high school transcript.
- Get a meningitis vaccine and mail/fax a copy to the college.
- Once accepted, apply for student housing on campus. A meningitis vaccine is required.
- Sign up for your college’s orientation.
